What is an indoor golf simulator?

An indoor golf simulator lets you play real golf — full swings with real balls — inside, any time of year. You hit into a screen while a launch monitor tracks your ball: clubhead speed, launch angle, spin, and carry distance. A projector shows the ball flight on a virtual course, so you can play famous layouts like Pebble Beach or St. Andrews without leaving town.

How much does it cost?

Most venues rent simulator time by the hour, per bay — not per person. In the St. Louis area, typical rates run $30 to $60 an hour: off-peak weekday mornings are cheapest (some venues go as low as $20), while prime evening and weekend hours run $50–60. One bay usually fits up to four to six players, so a $60 hour split four ways is $15 per person — less than a bucket of range balls at some courses. Many venues also sell monthly memberships ($99–$339/month) if you play weekly.

The technology

The big names you'll see: TrackMan (doppler radar, the same tech tour pros use), Foresight (high-speed cameras — the Falcon and GCHawk models), Toptracer (the tech behind Topgolf's bays), Full Swing, and X-Golf's proprietary camera-and-laser system. Accuracy varies, but modern systems are remarkably close to real on-course numbers — good enough for lessons, club fitting, and serious practice.

Why play indoors?

In the Midwest, winter shuts down outdoor golf for months. Simulators keep your swing sharp with tour-level data on every shot. They're also just fun: leagues, closest-to-pin contests, date nights, corporate outings, and birthday parties all run on sims now. Most venues rent clubs if you don't have your own, and many have full bars and kitchens — it's golf plus a night out.

How this directory works

We list pay-by-hour indoor golf venues — places where anyone can book a bay, no private club membership required. Every listing is researched against the venue's own website, with pricing, simulator tech, hours, and food and drink noted. Listings flagged details unconfirmed are ones we're still verifying — call ahead before visiting those. Venue owners: a basic listing is free.
